Long Beach is home to several large corporations. The Union Pacific Railway (UPR) and BNSF Railway (CSX) each provide rail transportation to the city. The two companies are responsible for about half of all transshipments from the port of Long Beach. Both companies also contributed to the Alameda Corridor project, which increased the capacity of the area’s highways and roads and eliminated 200-grade crossings. The project is estimated to cost US$2.4 billion.
Long Beach is home to a variety of theaters. It has a thriving public school system. There is the Found Theatre, which is part of the graduate theater program at CSULB, as well as the Alive Theatre and Garage Theatre. Long Beach CA is home to a diverse population. Residents range from children of all ages to elderly people. Almost one-third of residents are under the age of 18, and about 10 percent of the population is between 18 and 24.
